Yes we can courier them to you. Please allow up to 3 days if you're in a country destination. (We like to get them there earlier when possible). The cost of the courier comes out of your security deposit. *After 3 weeks at $12 a day.
Please Note. If you wish to use the phone overseas or on a ship outside of Australian waters then you must purchase the Iridium pre paid card. The Telstra sim simply doesn't work outside of Australia.
Sat phone Network usage
We offer 2 options
1. Bring your own Telstra phone card (NOT prepaid) SIM that's on roaming. Next G is fine. All calls will be billed to your own Telstra phone account, and your phone number won't change. You simply ring a landline number with its area code. The costs of this are about double the pre paid option, and anyone calling you will also suffer high costs. As well as this your Telstra simcard will enable you to use your own phone number, etc etc
Any Telstra SIMcard (3G or Next G) should work as long as -
- It has International Roaming enabled
- It's not Prepaid
- It doesn't have 1900 Call Barring.
If you put the SIMcard in, it should say "Registered" within a minute
of getting satellite signal.
You can do free testing by calling from the Satphone or to the Satphone, as long
as the call isn't answered.
This is not a great way to go if you normally get a lot of calls to your mobile, as all incoming calls are also charged by Telstra at a fantastic rate. However if you only intend to use the sat phone for emergencies, then its worthwhile. Just remind your friends and business NOT to call you while you're away. (They can leave an SMS message for you to call them back...cheaper for them) There are no activation fees, and all call fees are billed normally to your Telstra account.
2. We organize a satellite pre paid SIM card with talk time of 75mts.(other amounts available) Please note, the following conditions are set by the card supplier, not by us. It actually costs us time and money to provide these cards as a service to our customers.
All unused airtime is forfeited at the end of the hire, and we need about a week to set this up. Very useful if you have a sick or elderly relly or you've left the kids at home. If you have an emergency, this should give you plenty of talk time to yell for help. You can easily check time left and ask us for more minutes to be transferred ...this will take about 2 days and cost another $270 for another 75mts. (are you starting to see where that deposit comes in handy?)
75mts is more than enough air time. On a recent 2 week NZ trip I couldn't use all the mts I had available.
Once again there are no activation fees etc etc.
However you will need to tell your friends about your sat phone number, and remember to put +61 in front of your calls.
The pre paid option costs another $270 on top of hire and deposit.
The pre paid is only valid for a month, but we can pay to have it extended if you are delayed, or you are doing a longer trip say 6 weeks up the CSR.
3. Off o/s ? The prepaid card will work anywhere in the world.

A data kit is available for hire with a hire at $4 a day extra. (9500 phone only at the moment).
The kit comprises of a modem cable from the phone to your laptop USB port or serial port, and an installation disk. You can access email and the Web using this kit. Ring for more info.
Minimum cost , using your Telstra SIM card is $168 !!! (plus $400 security deposit which comes back to you if phone returned in GWO etc)
Not bad for 2 weeks hire of a satphone. It beats buying one and then reselling it at the end of the trip.

Please note. Both the deposit and the hire fee must be paid before the phone is hired.
Because our resources aren't limitless, sometimes we can have several enquiries for the same time slot, so first to get their deposit in gets the booking. This is quite important, as we've had to knock back quite a few enquiries, something we hate doing. Usually they are people who have left it until the last minute to try and hire a phone.
*Insurance. We recommend taking insurance as we have had some phones damaged in the past. It's easier to do than you can imagine. $100 insurance covers you for the total cost of damage. loss or breakage over the period of the hire. If you don't take out insurance then you are liable for the entire cost of replacement should something go wrong. See Pictures
