I'm not sure if people who visit this site can read or not. Every year I tell them to book early. And every year I have to disappoint people by saying "sorry mate can't help you." Now that can't be good for either of us.
Well if that's the case, why don't we just buy more stock ?
Because they cost up to $1500 + and that's a lot of hires. Most hires are done in June/July. Sadly, it's not a 12 month thing.
Please book early. Make sure that you have a signed form in with the deposit. That way neither of us is disappointed.

Well I hate to brag, but one of my books has been picked up by the National Library in Canberra.
Pity they didn't know about the others:)
Now to try and get them to a library near you. It helps if you ask for them by name, and the author. After all, they were written to be read.

DO I NEED TO HIRE COMMS ?
Let's be honest. Times are tough and there's less money to go around. Why waste it on things that you don't absolutely need ?
If you are comfortable with being broken down or having an accident and waiting for "passing traffic" then you don't need to hire anything. (Of course it might not be your accident that you come across and can't yell for help...i.e. you might be the passing traffic !)
If you can rebuild or effect any needed emergency repairs to your your vehicle then you probably don't need one. (but don't have an accident doing it !)
If you're young and fit, very careful , don't travel with children and don't get off the main roads and tracks then you probably don't need anything.
If you don't have any children or aged family members at home then you might not need one.
If you're absolutely positive that nothing will happen to you a long way from anywhere then you probably don't need to hire anything.
How did people cope before we had such things ? The truth is that most of us got where we were going quite safely thank you. But for the few, well....imagine what they would have thought of a sat phone or radio...at any price. The cost of a radio or satphone hire is tiny compared to the total costs of your journey. You probably can get away with not having a means of communicating with the world.
On the other hand......think of it as a sort of travel insurance.

Phew ! Back from my holiday which was courtesy of Malcolm Langley and NZ Adventures. And boy was it an adventure. Sufficient to say that if I didn't suffer from vertigo before I went, I certainly do now.
What a great place! Thanks to Malcolm and Nancye for putting up with me.
